About Freedom Boat Club

How long has FBC been in business?

Freedom Boat Club has been in business since 1989. We’re the world’s largest and oldest members-only boat club and we’re expanding rapidly.

How many locations are there?

450+ locations across Europe, North America and Australasia, with new locations being added almost every month. 6,000+ vessels in the network. 100,000+ members worldwide.

What countries can I boat in?

Eleven countries: UK, France, Spain, USA, Canada, the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Dubai, and Tasmania. Reciprocal access is included on Weekday, Family, Connect and Corporate tiers.

Reservations & usage

How do I know there will be boats available?

Our reservation system ensures that all members have equal access to the boats, plus members can make guaranteed reservations up to six months in advance.

Are there any usage charges?

No, you will never have usage charges. Your only additional cost is for the fuel that you use and any damage you may cause.

How many times can I go boating per year?

Boat usage is unlimited at your home location for Weekday, Family, Connect and Corporate tiers. Lite is limited to 8 boat-uses per year.

How do I make reservations?

Reserving a boat has never been easier. Simply log in to your reservation dashboard and choose your desired date, vessel, and time slot.

The fleet

What type of boats do you have?

We maintain a variety of boats ranging from open boats to cabin cruisers. Each market chooses its own fleet based on the needs and demands there. The Loch Lomond fleet is four boats: a Zodiac 5.5 Open for watersports and fast runs, a Quicksilver 705 Weekend cabin cruiser for longer days, a SeaRay SPX 210 day cruiser, and our flagship SeaRay SPX 230.

As a Freedom Boat Club member do I have access to only one boat?

You have access to a fleet of boats. This means you can choose one boat or another depending on your plans for the day: cruising, fishing, towing.

Is cleaning and maintenance included?

We take care of all the maintenance with engine services and repairs undertaken by qualified marine technicians. Each boat is cleaned and inspected by the dock staff before you arrive.

Do I need to fuel the boat?

We take care of fuelling, so your boat will always be fuelled up and ready to go. You pay for the fuel you use.

Do you rent your boats?

Never. This is a private fleet. We do not rent any of the boats in our fleet.

Members & guests

Who can I bring with me?

As long as a member is present, you can bring friends, family, guests, children, colleagues, or even your favourite pet up to the capacity of the boat.

How do you qualify members?

Membership is open to boaters of any skill level, 21 years of age and older.

Can I go boating at other Freedom Boat Club locations?

Yes. You will be able to book a boat from any of our locations around the world as you would in your own country. You just need to get the appropriate certification and bring it with you.

Training & safety

Do you offer boat training/safety classes?

Freedom Boat Club is a major proponent of boater education and safety. Each and every one of our Clubs provides FREE training to our local members regarding the safe use and operation of your “home club” fleet. This generally includes classroom and on-water training activities. Members must complete this training course before they can start reserving boats.

What RYA qualification do I need?

The RYA Powerboat Level 2 qualification is required for all named members. We deliver the 2-day course on site at Loch Lomond as an RYA-accredited training centre. Course is included; the RYA certification fee is paid separately.

What safety equipment is on the boat?

All boats have required equipment (per country guidance) including life jackets, a fire extinguisher, sound equipment, and flares.

Is insurance covered?

Yes, all our boats are fully insured. For small damages, we aim to repair in-house to keep the cost low.

Membership tiers & pricing

What does each tier cost?

All prices exclude VAT. Lite: £149/mo + £999 joining (8 uses/yr). Weekday: £299/mo + £1,999 joining (unlimited Mon–Fri). Family: £420/mo + £1,999 joining (unlimited 7-day, 3 named members). Connect: £499/mo + £2,999 joining (unlimited 7-day, priority peak). Corporate: from £499/mo + £3,999 joining for the Standard tier.

How long is the commitment?

Memberships run on a 12-month rolling basis. After the first 12 months you can leave on 30 days’ notice; before that, the fee is for the term.

Is the joining fee refundable?

The joining fee covers your onboarding — RYA training, kit, system access, account setup. It is non-refundable, but it is one-off. After year one you only pay the monthly fee.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my tier?

Yes — most members start on Lite or Weekday and move to Family by year two. Tier changes happen on your renewal date.

How do I sign up?

Sign-up is direct via GoCardless — secure direct-debit set-up, paperless, takes 2 minutes. Each tier has its own GoCardless link on the consumer memberships page.

The Lomond Lounge

What is The Lomond Lounge?

The Lomond Lounge is our purpose-built floating event venue — a purpose-built 15m × 5m floating venue vessel moored at Bandry Bay. 15m × 5m, three event spaces (main deck with bar/kitchen, upper terrace, cedar sauna), capacity 30 standing static or 60 with the private beach. Late licence to 23:00.

Can members use the Lomond Lounge?

Yes — members receive preferential rates on venue hire and private charters: Family & Connect members save 25% and corporate members save 50% on eligible bookings. Weddings and wellness sessions are priced the same for everyone.

What happens if the weather turns?

All events and charters are weather-dependent — The Lomond Lounge is an outdoor venue on open water, and adverse weather may affect your booking, in some cases requiring rescheduling. Every effort is made to offer alternative options, and the safety of our guests and crew always comes first.

Can we bring our own drinks aboard the Lounge?

Currently yes — alcohol is bring-your-own with a corkage charge, until the on-board bar opens (coming soon). Tea, coffee and soft drinks are provided on catered packages.

How do private charters work?

Book The Lomond Lounge as your own captained charter — a full day (8 hours), a half day (4 hours) or a two-hour jaunt, for up to 10 guests with transfers included. Sauna, cold-plunge and inflatables are on board; paddleboards and watersports are available on request at additional cost.
